Don't buy something premade, especially not from DSE, Harvey Norman, JB or any other mainstream tech seller.
Making something yourself would be the cheapest and best. If you don't know anything about current tech, just ask us PC users at pc.mmgn.com... or go to your local computer store and tell them you want a gaming PC for under $1000 and get a quote. Of course if you are a noob they may be dishonest and take advantage of that so show us the quote and we can tell you if its worth it or not.
I could draw up something capable for $500ish and something more on the epic side for $1000.

try your locale DSE or JB. a macbook would be pretty good but they are annoying. you can get a normal Mac for under $1000 ATM
